I became an affiliate marketer by dreaming of improving my life. It happened one day while I was surfing the net and I stumbled upon the idea of making money on the internet. At first I thought it was just another scam (and as I found out there are a few scams out there), but it intrigued me enough to buy my first e-book
I was hooked and immediately dreamed about thousands of dollars rolling in week after week, while I do nothing but count the money and thinking of ways to spend it. The thought of passive income fattening my bank balance while I do nothing was like a drug to me. I jumped on every chance I found, every promise made and spend quite a sum of money to make myself a millionaire. A few weeks and I were depressed and quite poorer. I just couldn’t understand what went wrong with this dream. The gurus made it sound so easy, so quick, but I found it was not so easy, or quick.
Making money on the internet is actually quite simple, even easy, as long as you do not equate easy with effortless. It is easier making money on the internet than say opening a shop somewhere, but both require time and effort to succeed. This I learned the hard way. Riding a bike is easy, but first you have to master the ability to balance the bike while moving.
When I first realized that I am not making money at all, I thought that my impressing was correct and that affiliate marketing is just another scam, but after looking honestly at the process I went through, I realized that the problem was not affiliate marketing, but I. I thought that I would become a millionaire simply by buying a few e-books, setting up a website and plugging some Adsense code into it. I thought that Adwords was this miracle ATM that would pour money into my account while I just sat back doing nothing. It did not turn out that way in the beginning.
I took a hard look at myself and realized that to be successful in online marketing you need to master some abilities and show certain attributes. Luckily most people already have these as standard, but you must realize that it is needed.
1. You need to be willing to learn. Being successful in internet marketing is a skill that must be mastered. Some people have a natural tendency to excel in this, but most of us will need to learn how to use the different tools and products available to achieve success.
2. You will need to be patient. Some programs do promise success in a very short time, but I believe those who do achieve this are lucky, or at best the exception. Most new affiliate marketers will have to work hard and wait before the money start rolling in. If you are not prepared for this, you will disheartened and quit too soon.
3. You need to be disciplined and keep at it. Working consistently a few minutes everyday will reap rewards in the long run. There is a lot to master and learn about this business. Taking it one bite at a time in a disciplined manner is the only way to achieve success.
4. You will need to desire success if you are going to be successful. If you are not determined to succeed, you will not. Struggling through the doubts and the, sometimes, time-consuming repetitive processes you will need the desire to keep at it. Success is found at the other side of this tunnel.
If you have these you will succeed. There are the few who will step in and immediately make money, and I hope you are one of them. I was not and if you are not one of the select few, do not give up. Stay positive and work hard at your dream… and it can come true. You can make money online as an affiliate marketer.
