Paul Thigpen tells a cute story about his wife reading to their two year old son, Elijah, at bedtime. She was reading to him Jesus’s story of the Good Samaritan. She got to the place in the story where the expert in the law confronted Jesus with a question. The lawyer asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
At that point little Elijah spoke up with what he thought was the answer, “I know! Mr. Rogers!”
A funny thing happened to me this morning. I was getting my car checked out by my mechanic for a business trip and I was thinking about all the things I had left to do in preparation for the trip, including my Wise Grappler business. As I sat there thinking about all the things I had to do and not enough time to do them, I considered canceling my business trip because that would’ve given me all the time I needed…or would it?
Believe it or not; what you believe is what you are and do. A serious point to also consider is that what you believe is also what you don’t do. As in the great words of Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right!”
So what does this mean to you? Simply this, if you believe you can do something you usually do it without trepidation. Conversely if you believe you can’t do something you will not even try. So by not believing you can; you severely limit yourself from many possibilities.
“I believe I can fly.” I bet you have heard that song before. It is a nice and simple song that has a very deep and motivational theme. That theme is to believe in yourself. But what are beliefs? Beliefs are basically a set rules you abide by in your mind and life that govern the way you think and act.
What can beliefs do for you? Or how do beliefs affect you? Beliefs enable you to distinguish & differentiate right from wrong. If you have always believed that playing with matches is dangerous and wrong, you will most probably sway away from playing with a pack of matches and start setting things ablaze.
Believe it or not, having a successful mindset begins first in your head and then manifests into everything you do including the people you interact with - your friends, family, colleagues, business associates, clients and customers.
Your mental attitude dictates whether you will be receptive and accepting of new things, ideas, and people. By having an open and positive attitude you can choose to view ANY life situation as an opportunity OR a problem. And, when you begin your day with a deliberate optimistic and realistic attitude, your physical environment, personal relationships, and business partnerships become a stepping stone for success.
We talk of ‘Born Leaders’, people who have that certain ‘X-Factor’ when it comes to decision making and leading others, but I must dispel the myth right now that these are qualities which you cannot develop within yourself over time. Even the meekest, most humble little clerk can develop themselves into a lean, mean dealing machine with hard work and self-confidence. So if you’re reading this and think that this is all over your head, ask yourself: ‘Is that really what I want?’ So you want to be a follower all your life, obeying orders at every turn? I doubt you want to look back at your life and find that there’s nothing spectacular to note.
Think about this: In just a few days, with a video camera and digital editing tools, you can create many of the same powerful effects as major movie producers.
But good video – like good speeches and good prose – begins with the writing. And since I’m a writer, not a videographer, the tips below are intended to assist you with the writing part of an effective one to five-minute presentation.
1. Single theme – For a short, non-fiction video, focus on a single, basic theme. Everything in that video should relate to that single subject.
