Choosing Scuba Diving Fins

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Split Fins Probably the biggest choice you have to make is whether to go for a solid fin design such as the Mares Avanti Quattro fins, or a split fin such as the Tusa X-Pert Zoom fins.

The idea behind split fins is that they make it easier to fin underwater - they do this by having a less rigid body which obviously offers less resistance to the water. This does usually mean less raw power although the increased efficiency (less effort) can make up for this. Also unless you happen to dive in conditions where you have to fight a current often, this isn’t really an issue.

Diving Safaris In The Maldives

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

One of the most exciting things to do while on holiday in the Maldives is to dive beneath the clear blue sea and spend some time with the amazing tropical fish and coral reefs.

It is possible to stay in a resort and go diving from there, however, I have found it is much more fun to spend a few days on a diving safari. These are generally made up of a dozen or so divers that live onboard a boat that is custom fitted for this purpose. On a diving safari you can pick and choose your dive sites, visit some of the smaller and more remote islands, and find secluded anchorages to spend the night.
