But they must not be any old keywords – they must be keywords with little competition. How do you manage this? Here are some ideas.
- Use company names. You have to be careful with this as some companies won’t allow affiliates to bid on their company name, especially if it’s trademarked. So you have to check their rules. But if you find there’s no restriction, this is a brilliant way to dominate your niche. There is very little competition for company names and yet you can hardly have a more targeted keyword. You will not get many clicks, but the clicks you do get are extremely profitable. Also try using other related phrases such as those including inc., agency, corporation, etc.
- Use domain names. The same applies to domain names as to company names. Use the domain name and variations of it as keywords unless the company has specifically said you may not do so. There is little competition for them and they are highly profitable. This will really help you explode your adwords profits.
- Drill down into niches. Take a broad keyword concept and break it down into smaller and smaller niches. The best way to do this is by using a keyword tool – preferably the kind that shows results/searches ratios and number of Google and Overture ads. When you enter the keyword you will get a list of related keywords – click on a keyword in that list and you will get another list. As you see niches emerging, use these and break them down further. For example, start with the broad concept “fashions” – this can be broken down into women’s fashions, children’s fashions etc. Children’s fashions can be broken down further into tweenies’ fashions, teen fashions, toddlers’ fashions etc. Then you can drill down tweenies’ fashions into tweenies’ school fashions, tweenies’ party fashions, tweenies’ holiday fashions and so on. And you can go on further into tiny micro niches. The more “micro” your niches get, the more targeted your keywords will be, the less competition you will have and the more you will explode your adwords profits.
- In each microniche, create separate adgroups using misspellings, abbreviations, two words run together etc. Think out of the box and imagine, not what people are supposed to search on, but what they actually DO search on. The more you do this, the more you will dominate your niche.
